By University of Denver Student Ellen Kaufman
The Vicki Myhern Gallery is now showing “Juried Alumni Exhibition” through June 16th, featuring artists Tom Linker, Cassandra Lillard, Faith Williams, and more. As a current student at the University of Denver, I believe the gallery opens and connects the university campus to the city and art world at large. Students who aspire to be a part of the art field have the opportunity to view and be inspired by the variety of works in the exhibition, and seeing alumni who had once been in the same shoes as currently enrolled students makes the show even more special.
Tom Linker’s “Sentinel”, mixed media with collage is an exciting piece reminiscent of an otherworldly landscape full of color and texture. Below he is pictured with director of the Kirkland Museum Hugh Grant.
Faith William’s “Credit Series”, credit and debit card on panel is an incredibly unique and detailed piece with precisely cut credit cards into human forms frozen in place. The attention to detail and precise forms with bright, artificial quality of these cards really makes this piece one of a kind.
Cassandra Lillard’s “#49”, acrylic on canvas is a beautiful hard edged abstraction that expertly juxtaposes bright blues with gray and white tones. The shapes and lines in the painting are eye-catching for gallery visitors.
Go check out the exhibit before it closes on June 16th to see these exciting works on the University of Denver campus.
